Janina Tukarsky Ellis

Originally from Seattle, raised in Germany, and returned to Greenville, Ellis flash-freezes everyday moments while promoting movement in blurred abstraction. Most of our art takes us out of everyday living and places us into nature, serenity, or wildness, but Ellis’s work situates us in a metro community of strangers who become familiar and welcoming. It's a reminder that life is mostly lived in the mundane—such that each moment is a celebration, a reflection of Da Vinci's quote: "In rivers, the water you touch is the last of what has passed and the first of that which comes: so with time present."
